Odor scrubbers are designed to reduce or eliminate nuisance odors in emission of gases of several sources, and they do that by absorbing soluble gases into water or a chemical reactant. These gases and pollutants which are absorbed on the liquid phase, are then neutralized or eliminated using a chemical product or a biological process. The most used chemical is chlorine, but there is a wide range of possible chemicals.
In wastewater treatment plant with biological process, the same treated wastewater is used as the liquid for the absorption of odors, since it can be recirculated to the wastewater for a biological oxidation of the odors. This is the more efficient and sustainable way of eliminating the odors, since no chemicals are involved.
In complement to wet scrubber, the biofilter is a very eco-friendly technology, where the gases passe through a bed of microorganisms that absorbs and oxidize the odors. Although it usually uses much more space than wet scrubbers.
And finally, the other most competitive technology for odor emission control is the activated carbon filter. This technology usually have a lower investment than scrubber and biofilters, but higher operational costs, since the activated carbon has to be change often.
Although the best technology is the one the better suites the criteria design for specif project. In that sense, Olfatec design and manufacture the best technology for you application.
Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic and corrosive pollutant present in biogas produced in anaerobic digestion processes. The hydrogen sulfide needs to be removed before using the biogas in an electrical plant or in heat production, or before sending it to a flare. For removing the hydrogen sulfide, and other pollutants in biogas, a gas scrubber is used, using an alkaline washing solution.
The sulfides that are absorbed by the washing solution are then oxidized through biological processes like activated sludge. Our gas scrubber are designed according to the removal effectiveness need it.
Olfatec provides services of odor unit measurement and the application of dispersion modelling of the
gas emissions of specific processes to determine the impact of the emissions in the environment and
the community. The technical solutions we provide are designed according to the odor intensity and
removal required to accomplish the air quality standard.
